It’s Spring, not Summer, there, I said it. We are enthusiastically embracing rhubarb in (almost) everything at the shop. We also attempted to plant native wildflowers in the parkway between us and Green Lake Drive to enhance the beauty of the season. Alas, to our surprise, blackberry bramble and grass have sprouted instead - a bit of a disappointment, but we can still dream! Isn’t Spring magic though?! We say ta-ta to soup (even though soup purists are saying “I could eat soup all year long!”) and heeello to PNW produce, with our Summer Side (and this is where Avery broke my “it is Spring, not Summer” rule; however, he lives by the meteorological summer, not the astronomical summer, thus Summer for him begins June 1, huzzah!). An official menu change is coming June 3, where we play our tiny violins and say goodbye to many things, including the I’d Date a Jalapeno as it hibernates during the busy season, only to be resurrected in the Fall. Rest assured friends, we finally gave in to incorporating cheese on more than one sandwich (we typically highlight cheese in a sandwich instead of treat it like a condiment) so there are plenty of cheesy sandwich opportunities ahead. Spuds are DEFINITELY sticking around this summer and Green Goddess Potato Salad will be making a special appearance here and there (we can’t make everyone happy - potayto, potahto!). Of the new menu changes, Avery is most excited about the Roast Malone; thinly sliced Zoe’s roast beef, gribiche (a fancy sauce made of sieved egg, aioli, cornichon, shallot, tarragon & lemon), with thinly sliced cucumber and crisp artisan lettuces…bread is still undecided. The important thing to know here is that it is giving pool vibes, which means, lake vibes and it’s a sandwich best eaten in the grass with a cup of rose´. Moving on, our beloved General Manager, Natalie, has taken on new positions at Homer and Little Thing wine shop. Over the past year, her passion for wine has grown, leading her to dedicate more of herself to working with wine. We wish her the best of luck in her new endeavors. If you haven’t already, do try both places, not only is the food at Homer insanely delicious the selection of wine at Little Thing is equally impressive! Lastly, if you, like many regulars have been wondering where Avery has been, he broke his foot during a power lifting meet in April and had surgery to repair it. Fret not, nothing will keep this guy down for too long, he’s on the mend and dipping his foot (feet…foot for now) back in the shop on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, by way of a knee scooter. He is expected to make a full recovery by Summer (the astronomical one).
